Approximately 25,000 homes in southeastern Queensland were left without power on Monday's dawn after severe thunderstorms passed over the state, producing strong winds topping 109km/h.

Massive Frozen Precipitation and Widespread Destruction

Homeowners observed large ice chunks as large as seven centimeters in particular locations. The Bureau of Meteorology confirmed that multiple regions across the state had been affected by large hailstones.

Emergency crews were attempting to repair energy supply throughout the impacted areas, with dozens of response units deployed to address the numerous electricity disruptions.

Southern State's Climate Difficulties

Meanwhile, nearly 1,000 energy customers in Victoria also experienced electricity disruptions after the metropolitan area saw its most precipitation in a year and a half.

State Emergency Services handled over five hundred emergency reports across the state, mainly for structural issues but also for downed trees and inundation.

• Werribee - experienced significant weather impact
• Hoppers Crossing area - multiple assistance requests
• Wyndham area - nearly 180 calls for assistance

At one point on yesterday, over twenty-eight thousand power users in the state were lacking electricity.

Weather Forecast

Damp conditions were expected to linger along significant areas of Queensland's east this week as a low-pressure trough continued to pull in damp air against the shoreline.

Tuesday was forecast to be the most rainy day, with ongoing thunderstorm potential anticipated across multiple regions of both areas.

Health Warning

Health officials cautioned that there was an greater possibility of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the countryside regions, particularly given the current weather patterns.

This warning comes after past events where analogous circumstances led to major medical consequences in the area.
